Taro Araya

Taro Araya is a Colombian-born Japanese National who graduated with both a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Marketing from the Universidad de Los Andes (Bogota, Columbia). He later went on to complete his MBA at TRIUM, a combined degree issued by London School of Economics, New York University, and HEC Paris. Between 1995-2010 he worked with Pintucarros and Suki, two organizations he founded dedicated to the automotive industry and business automation. He also gained experience working with multinational corporations through his work doing HR consulting for Amrop International, systems integration with Texins, and finally with Ericsson where he began his work in the Telecom industry. His international work experience has taken him on assignments across the Caribbean, Northern Latin America, North America and South East Asia. In December 2010, he founded MIAKI, an organization with the vision of creating happiness and with a mandate to create and accelerate startups that use ICT as a drive for change. MIAKI focuses on enabling ICT to deliver information across channels. It has grown in the span of four years to consolidate itself as a player in the area of Social Digital Services with initiatives in m-health, such as a doctor’s health line and a help line for reducing mortality rates from cholera outbreaks. Miaki also works in m-agriculture and has developed a Farmer Line to improve the quality of life for over 15 million households by providing relevant agriculture information to improve farming practices in Bangladesh. Taro has been a member of several boards, including both non-profit and for profit enterprises, as well as mentoring different initiatives that foster innovation and entrepreneurship that work to alleviate poverty and improve quality of life. In 2014, in recognition of his exceptional work, Taro was selected by the Colombian govenrment as one of 100 outstanding Colombians living abroad and contributing successfully to society on or behalf of Colombia.
