John Preissing

John Preissing is currently serving as the FAO Representative in Peru, since 2012. Prior to this, he had been the Senior Officer for Extension with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in the Research and Extension Branch of the Office of Knowledge Exchange, Research, and Extension since 2008. He is a US native from Chicago IL and has worked in agriculture extension for over 30 years, as an extension agent, extension district director with the University of Wisconsin Extension, researcher on extension, and as project development officer for rural development and extension. John has worked extensively in the rural US, Latin America and Africa. 

John has degrees in Political Science/Public Administration (BA) from Northern Illinois University, Agriculture Economics (MSc) from the University of Kentucky, and Extension Education (Ph.D) from the University of Minnesota. His work currently focuses on providing leadership to the FAO Program in Peru with a focus on developing public policies for food security and agriculture, implementing field level projects that generate evidence and experiences for regional and national programs, and capacity development programs. Additionally, he provides technical assistance in the Latin American region for agriculture innovation, research, and extension programs. 

As a Senior Officer while in Rome his work focused on agriculture innovation improvements; extension reform and revitalization; extension delivery systems; financing and investment strategies for extension; and extension staff capacity development. This work included training programs, policy papers, and technical assistance related projects.
