John Peters

Prior to joining USAID in February 2014, John came from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he worked for 36 years including serving as Extension Specialist in the Department of Soil Science and the Director of the Soil Testing, Plant Analysis and Feed and Forage Analysis Laboratories. He has extensive experience training agricultural professionals including extension staff, government agency staff, farm input and service providers, and working directly with farmers and gardeners. He has also programmed and conducted applied research in soil fertility and plant nutrition, liming, fertilizer strategies, nutrient and manure management, and animal feed production and quality analysis. In addition, from 2008-2010 John has served as Chief of Party and Extension Agricultural Specialist for a USAID-supported project in India, the Partnership for Innovation and Knowledge in Agriculture (PIKA) project, which provided technical assistance, developed extension and training strategies for PIKA project partners to improve productivity, strengthen linkages to markets, and support rural development activities. John has also served as a Soil Science Extension consultant for a UN Project in East Timor and from 1990-1992 as a Soil Scientist on a USAID-funded project in the Gambia.
