Joe Kwarteng

Professor Joseph Adjei Kwarteng is a Professor of Agricultural Extension at the School of Agriculture, College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He was born in Bechem, Ghana in 1953. Prof. Kwarteng obtained his BSc. Honours degree in agriculture from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 1979. He also holds a Diploma in Education certificate which he obtained concurrently with his BSc. Degree from the UCC. Having completed Part 1 of his MSc. Agronomy studies at the University of Ghana in 1983, Prof. Kwarteng proceeded to complete his Master and Ph.D. studies at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He was awarded a Ph.D in Agricultural Extension by the Ohio State University in 1986. Prof. Kwarteng joined the University of Cape Coast as a lecturer in 1988 and rose to the position of Full Professor in 2012. In addition to teaching courses in Agricultural Extension and Research Methods, Prof. Kwarteng served in various capacities in university administration including the following: Head of Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, 1994-2000 and 2002-2008; Vice Dean of the School of Agriculture, 2005-2008; and Dean of the School of Agriculture, 2008-2011. He has over 50 publications to his credit including 15 textbooks for schools. He has also facilitated the development of many agricultural extension training materials. Prof. Kwarteng is a consultant in agriculture, agricultural extension and training, curriculum development and e-learning. He has worked extensively as a consultant for many local and international organizations. He is happily married to Mrs. Ida Kwarteng with whom he has three children. His passions include farming, giving motivational talks to youth and preaching the Christian gospel.
