Ben Mueller

Benjamin C. Mueller, MS is the Director for Outreach, Partnerships and Volunteer Management for Avicenna Community Health Center, a free, interfaith health clinic founded in 2010 by Muslim American physicians in Champaign, Illinois. 

Mr. Mueller has extensive experience in rural health outreach and assisting charitable and federally qualified health clinics. Ben has also focused his work in the area of community and organizational development research and outreach with a special expertise with Hispanic populations in the Midwest and in international settings. 

Mueller retired from the University of Illinois in 2011 after 18 years where he served as a Community Development Specialist for University of Illinois Extension and Assistant Director for Community Outreach for the National Center for Rural Health Professions at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. 

From 1993­‐2010 Mr. Mueller created and served as executive director for Nuevos Horizontes (New Horizons), a nationally recognized educational outreach program in Spanish for Hispanic immigrant and Latino audiences utilizing radio, the web and multi­media tools. He is the former Director of the Northern Illinois Area Health Education Center, supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, that provided health education and community action projects for rural, underserved populations in fourteen Illinois counties. 

Most recently Mueller has worked with the University of Illinois and USAID to produce a rural sector study to assess and develop an action plan for the Extension Service of the National Federation of Coffee Growers in Colombia, a private/public partnership organization with 540,000 small producers in 17 states of Colombia.
